Executive Director: Dave Wheelan. Over the last thirty years, Dave has worked in the fields of communications, institutional development, and strategic planning with the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Trust for Public Land, and the University of California, Berkeley. He also served as Vice President of Development and College Relations at Washington College under President Douglass Cater during the 1980s. He founded Spy Publications, now the Community Newspaper Project, in 2009, which currently supports four e-newspapers on the Eastern Shore as well as in Ketchum, Idaho.
Spy News Director: Dan Menefee. Dan has been the full-time multimedia reporter for the Spies since 2011–covering local and state politics, education and the environment. Dan took a leave of absence in 2012 under a fellowship grant from Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation to cover the 2012 session of the Maryland General Assembly. Dan earned a BS in Communications Design from University of Baltimore in 2000 and completed some graduate work in journalism at University of Maryland.
Keystone Managing Editor & News Director: Brennan Rego. Brennan grew up in the Wood River Valley and has called the area home since he was two, save for a quick educational stint in California’s Bay Area. He has written news, food and travel journalism for a variety of electronic and print publications in the Bay Area and Wood River Valley. He holds a B.A. in modern world language from Stanford University and a Le Cordon Bleu culinary arts degree from the California Culinary Academy. Brennan has won several reporting awards from the Idaho Press Club, including the 2013 First Amendment Award for all media.
Spy Managing Editor: James Dissette is the founder of monthly community newspapers in Oregon, Michigan and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He is the 1971 winner of the Sophie Kerr Award for Creative Writing, and most recently published Fierce Blessings, a collection of poems in 2008. He is a partner at Chester River Press and recently designed their current publication, Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey as translated by Alexander Pope and is currently working on his book, A Hungry Moon.
Design Director: Jean Sanders. Jean has been a painter and graphic designer for the past thirty years. A graduate of Washington College, where she majored in fine art, Jean started her work in design with the Literary House lecture program. The illustrations she contributes to the Spies are done with watercolor, colored pencil and ink.
Technology Director: Derek Beck. Derek is a user interface designer and front-end developer with over fifteen years experience in web development, graphic design and publishing. He holds a B.F.A. in Communication Design from Kutztown University and has won several local design and development awards form the American Advertising Federation.
